Gunn IMS aims to treat pain that stems from neuropathy/radiculopathy, but it does not purport to treat neuropathic pain of every type as this can be caused by many different pathophysiologies.  This bulletin explores this subtle and very important difference and makes recommendations on how to communicate this in a consistent manner.

Our choice of words as we communicate with doctors, physiotherapists, insurers and policy makers can create confusion and poor acceptance of the Gunn IMS model. This occurs frequently with imprecise use of the terms myofascial pain, neuropathic pain and radiculopathic pain.
